What kind of babysitters are you going to connect me up with?
Datenight Babysitters are largely students — mostly University and College students or recent grads. There are also High School students and Nannies on the Datenight roster. All babysitters on the Datenight roster have provided us with at least 2 child-care related references (which will be passed on to you once they’ve accepted your interview request) and have described experience with kids (which you’ll see in their profiles). Datenight babysitters have a wide range of experience — many are ECE students, swimming instructors, camp counsellors, dance teachers and long-time babysitters.
How do I know these babysitters are trustworthy?
All babysitters on the Datenight roster have undergone a 20 minute Skype screening interview – conducted by a parent. They’ve told us their child-care experience and they’ve provided child-care related references. But ultimately we don’t want you to trust us that they’re great (although they are!) – we want you to decide it for yourself. So we make the process of meeting and interviewing babysitters simple. In 10 minutes you can set-up 2-3 interviews with babysitters from Datenight’s roster. Once babysitters accept an interview with you – we pass along the reference info that babysitters have provided — so that you can be sure that you’re finding a great fit for your family and feel confident in your choices. No one will pick a better babysitter for your family than you will — and we believe that you want to make those final decisions for yourself.
Why is there a range in hourly fees per babysitter?
We’re not a babysitting agency — we’re a platform that connects parents with great babysitters. Babysitters don’t work for us — they’re totally autonomous – and as such, they set their own rates.
How much does using Datenight cost?
To meet and book babysitters, Datenight has three membership tiers available. After becoming a member, you pay for your babysitter based on when you use them. In addition, there is a $1 credit card fee and if you come home after 11 PM we ask that you pay a $7 cab fare fee to contribute to the cost of getting them home safe. Or even better — order them a ride home.
Can I upgrade my membership partway through the year?
Definitely! If you wish to upgrade your membership, please contact us at email@example.com
What exactly does “Guaranteed Available” mean?
Guaranteed available is a new feature where we guarantee that we will help you find a babysitter for the date that you need one. You’ll request Skype Interviews from a short-list of Datenight babysitters who have already been booked at least twice by one Datenight family. The first babysitter from your chosen few to accept, gets the interview – and likely the babysitting opportunity.
If you’re new to Datenight and need a babysitter in a hurry — or if your regular babysitters aren’t available – we will help you find a new babysitter based on your preferences so that you don’t ever have to miss out on an event because you don’t have a babysitter.
What is “Concierge Service?”
If you select a Membership plan with Concierge Service, we make sure that you’re set up with three babysitters to interview based on your preferences. We recognize that you’re busy and might not feel like sorting through babysitters and deciding which ones to meet so we do all the work for you. And if you don’t find a match with the three babysitters you interviewed, don’t worry, we can help you meet more!
What do the fees charged by Datenight go towards?
The bulk of the cost of a Datenight goes to the babysitter. Additional fees go towards building the business and credit card/money transfer costs.
How do I pay my sitter at the end of a Datenight?
Datenight Babysitters are always paid through the Datenight booking system. Just before your Datenight, you’ll get a text message with a payment link. Follow the link, set the number of hours of babysitting and pay by credit card. No last minute dash to the bank! No awkward cash handover! Payment is forwarded to babysitters by email transfer within 24-48 hours.
What if I want to tip?
There isn’t a tip box on the payment link. If you want to tip – pay your Datenight babysitter for longer than they were there.
What if we come home earlier or later than we booked for?
Booking times are just general guidelines for babysitters. When you go to pay — you’ll be asked how long the babysitter was there, just change the length of the Datenight accordingly. (Side Note: Try your best to be a fairly accurate guesser. Having a babysitter accept a 5 hour babysitting job and then having them only babysit for 2 hours isn’t all that fair. Similarly, they may have plans after you come home so try not to be late, and if you are late — be sure to let them know).
Can I drive my babysitter home instead of paying the $7 transport fee?
Datenight really discourages babysitters from taking rides from parents. There are so many reasons why it just seems safer to contribute to the cost of their cab fare home – either through the $7 cab fare fee, or by ordering them a ride home.
Do I have to use Datenight babysitters for Datenights only, or can I ask them to babysit for different reasons/times of day?
You can definitely ask Datenight babysitters to babysit by day, on weekends or at other times – even on an on-going basis. The inspiration for Datenight just came from the occasional evening idea, and it stuck.
What areas/cities do you serve?
Datenight currently has babysitters in Toronto and Ottawa and we’re trying to figure out where to expand to next (any ideas?). There may be babysitters near you — babysitters are added to the roster every day, but you’ll have to register to check.
How many babysitters could I meet through your service?
You could meet quite a few. We encourage parents try to build a roster of 3+ babysitters. Although babysitters love to babysit — there are definitely times through out the year when they are busier than other. Having two or three babysitters that you can call on makes it more likely that someone will be available for your Datenight and gives you some peace of mind that you’ve got a good fall-back plan.
Am I free to book my babysitter outside of the Datenight app?
You are not. We spend a lot of time behind the scenes finding great babysitters and helping them to connect with parents. Datenight has a roster of high quality babysitters available to you, rather than asking you to sift through a whole bunch of mediocre babysitters like so many other sites do. We’re trusting that parents and babysitters will recognize that the service that we’re providing is valuable to them and will use the booking system (as outlined in the parent and babysitter contracts) to book.
Can I suggest Datenight to my friends?
Absolutely! And we would greatly appreciate it if you would do so! You can either suggest specific babysitters OR just our service in general to your friends. What’s in it for you? When your friend becomes a member, you get a $20 credit for Datenight services — suggest us to enough friends and you can have free dates all year!
Why don’t you use a rating system for your babysitters?
We think that all of the babysitters on the Datenight roster are great candidates and worth an interview.
Why don’t babysitters have profile pictures?
We hate the idea of parents browsing (mostly) women’s pictures to decide who is best qualified to do any kind of work — and we’re determined not to do it that way. This is a controversial topic at Datenight HQ — but our founder Elize is really adamant about it. We’ll see if she can stick to it over the long term.
Also — we’ve read a lot lately about subtle bias. Not showing profile pictures, and jumping straight to interviews where personality and experience can shine is one way of mitigating that. We’re playing with the idea of not even revealing first names – would that make the world an even better place? Maybe.
NB – Unfortunately most of the babysitters on the roster are women … although — there are some **awesome** male babysitters on the roster who get waaaay too few requests. If you’re so inclined – we’d love it if you would meet them.
