Since we’re still pretty small, but growing — there are a few important things to know about Datenight.
1 – We really need you to keep your software updates on for Datenight — We are constantly evolving. It is WAY harder than I thought to build an intuitive product. Not only is the target a moving one (I did not think when I set out to help parents get out on dates, that I would be helping them to find babysitters … I thought that I would be helping them to plan and schedule), but it’s a fuzzy one, too. We build a feature that we think makes sense — and then our users tell us that they’d like it to work differently. Or in a different order. You know that bug that’s driving you crazy when you try to book? We just might have changed it in the next release. But you won’t know if you don’t have the latest version.
To turn on updates:
Phone Settings > iTunes & App Store > Updates
Or at the very least — browse the App Store frequently to see what’s updated.
I might just end up sending out text message reminders when we have a new version out. It’s really, really important to a small start-up to have users using the latest version. I never really realized this until I was knee-deep in the app-building world.
1 – It’s better for everyone if you turn on Push Notifications — Datenight’s success depends on letting you know when babysitters accept your requests. Whether it’s for an interview or for a Datenight — you need to know when someone is going to show up at your house. While the beginning of the Datenight process is website-based, the booking process is app-based (although you can now book online in your browser, too). Not only that – without push notifications, you can never take advantage of our new feature where we send you your babysitter’s availability. “Jennifer is free to babysit Saturday Night – do you want to schedule a Datenight?” — you’ll never be able to receive this good news if you don’t have your notifications on.
To enable push notifications:
Phone Settings > Notifications > Datenight
If you’re reading this page — it’s because you’re one of our first 250 users. It’s exciting to get to that mark — but there’s still a long way to go and a lot to improve. But we’re working on it. So thanks for sticking with us through the growing pains and the bugs. We really, REALLY appreciate it.
Sincerely and with many thanks,
