Datenight was started by a mom of 2 boys under 4.
So we know what it’s like to be crazy busy and to really want a reliable and fun babysitter — but not having the time to find one. So we are making that process easier.

Our Tenets are:
- Parents love their kids — but they want to have grown-up fun, too
- It’s hard to ask friends and family for babysitting all the time
- We’d like a local babysitter who our kids love
- We’d like to vet this babysitter a little first
- We’d like help scheduling Datenights
So Datenight is the product of that dilemma.
Datenight will help me to find a babysitter. How?
Datenight has a roster of local babysitters looking for great families to work for. Many are University of Toronto, Ryerson and George Brown students. Some are even ECE (Early Childhood Education) students. Some are high school students. Some are Nannies. Some have been babysitting for 7+ years. Some are swimming instructors. Some have spent many summers as camp counsellors. Some have many younger siblings.
When you register with Datenight — you see a list of babysitters in your area and you invite the ones that you think are most suitable for Interviews at your house or via Skype.
What Happens in an Interview?
Interviews are opportunities for parents and babysitters to meet and assess each other.
At the 30 minute interview, you and the babysitter are interviewing each other at your house or via Skype. You are not obliged to hire them — and they are not obliged to work for you. The goal of the interview is to establish mutual trust between both parties — as employer and employee. The babysitter’s parents may request to attend the interview. Datenight is fully in support of this — and actually thinks that it is a worthwhile practice. We’re trying to build community connections here — the more people you know, the better.
All babysitters on Datenight’s roster have been through an initial screening, but it’s up to parents to follow up with their references and check any of the credentials that they deem to be important. After all — you’re the best judge of who is a best fit to look after your family.
What happens after the Interview?
After the interview, Datenight will follow-up with both parties. If you both approve of the match — great! You become a client-family for that particular babysitter. Babysitters can have 3-6 client-families. The amount of client-families a babysitter can have is dependant on the type of membership they subscribe to. If either party doesn’t approve of the match — no problem. We will happily set each of you up with other client-families/babysitters to repeat the interview process.
At this point, you can Download the Datenight App to and get started booking Datenights! Or daytime babysitting. Whatever you need.
Can I use Datenight for after school, weekly or ongoing care?
Definitely! There are lots of babysitters on the roster who would love to have a recurring gig – and many who already have them! Register here — and if you’d prefer to talk to someone about it in person – send us an email at [email protected] – we’re happy to discuss.
What are the fees?
Datenight offers three memberships tiers as well as a one-time use fee. [go_pricing id=”pricing_table”]
How much do babysitters charge?
Babysitters charge $10-$15 an hour depending on their level of experience. For babysitters under 17 and anytime a babysitting session ends after 11 pm, there is $7 cab fare fee (we all want babysitters to be safe, right?).
Isn’t that expensive?
Consider the fact that you are paying for an experienced, mature babysitter to take care of what is most valuable to you. Many people would pay someone upwards of $15/hr to clean their house — why note pay similarly to ensure that your children are safe and well-taken care of. And as a bonus many babysitters don’t mind doing some cooking and/or light housework.
